Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 13, 2026
nextayah is a Quran recitation companion. We built it so you can practice with confidence — your voice stays on your device, and we only collect what we need to make the app work. This policy explains exactly what that means.
The short version
- Your recitation audio never leaves your phone. Scoring runs entirely on-device.
- We save your scores, practice activity, and profile to your account so you can see your progress.
- We use Supabase, Mixpanel, and Sentry to run the app. We do not sell your data.
- You can request account deletion at any time by emailing us.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up, we store the identifier from your chosen sign-in method — email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Google — along with the profile details you choose: display name, username, avatar, country, and a friend code we generate for you.
Recitation audio (stays on your device)
When you record a verse, the audio is processed locally on your phone using on-device speech recognition and on-device scoring. Your recording is not uploaded, streamed, or stored on our servers, and we have no way to listen to it. Once the score is computed, the audio is released from memory.
What we do save to your account is the result: the verse you practiced, your score, the breakdown across melody, tone, clarity, flow, loudness, speed, and tajweed, and the time you practiced.
Practice activity
To show your progress and power features like streaks, awards, and leaderboards, we store your daily activity (XP earned, ayat recited, minutes practiced, sessions completed) and your interactions with content (which recitations you listened to, imitated, liked, shared, or bookmarked).
Social activity
If you add friends, follow other reciters, join a leaderboard, or join a recite-together room, we store the records needed to make those features work — friend requests, follow relationships, leaderboard memberships, and room participation.
Subscription status
If you purchase a Pro subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple or Google. We receive a confirmation that you are a Pro member and store that status on your profile. We never see your payment details.
Device and usage data
We collect basic technical information — device type, operating system, app version, language, and anonymized product events (for example, "started a practice session") — so we can keep the app stable and understand which features people actually use.
How we use your information
- To deliver core features like recitation scoring, agent mode, leaderboards, and recite-together rooms.
- To show your progress, streaks, awards, and personalized content.
- To diagnose crashes and keep the app stable.
- To understand how features are used so we can improve the product.
- To communicate with you about your account, updates, and support.
- To prevent abuse and keep the community safe.
Service providers we use
We do not sell your personal information. We share the minimum data needed with trusted service providers that help us operate nextayah:
- Supabase — hosts your account, profile, practice history, social graph, and leaderboards. Authentication and the database run here.
- Mixpanel — product analytics. We send anonymized events about feature usage. We do not send your recitation audio, the verses you practice, or the contents of any recording.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting. Reports may include your device type, app version, and a technical stack trace so we can fix bugs. They do not include your recordings.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — handle authentication (when you use Sign in with Apple or Google) and process all subscription billing. Your payment details stay with them.
- Cloudflare — provides the network relay (TURN) that lets recite-together rooms connect peer-to-peer when a direct connection isn't possible.
- Quran Foundation — supplies some of the Quranic audio and verse content you listen to and practice with.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
What others can see
Some information is visible to other people in the app by design:
- Your display name, username, and avatar are visible to friends, followers, and people who share a leaderboard or room with you.
- Your scores, XP, and ranking are visible on leaderboards you join. Private leaderboards are limited to people with the join code.
- Recite-together rooms transmit your live audio peer-to-peer to other participants in the room while you are connected. That audio is not recorded by us.
Children
nextayah is intended for users aged 13 and over. Younger learners are very welcome to practice with the help of a parent or guardian who manages the account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental involvement. If you believe a child has signed up without consent, please contact us and we will remove the account.
Your choices
- You can edit your profile, username, avatar, and visibility settings inside the app.
- You can leave any leaderboard or remove any friend at any time.
- You can turn off non-essential notifications from your device settings.
- You can request account deletion by emailing hello@nextayah.app from your account address. We will remove your profile and associated data within 30 days.
Data retention and security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where limited retention is required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons. We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, but no system is perfectly secure.
International users
nextayah is operated from outside your country, and the service providers we use may store and process your information in regions including the United States and the European Union. By using the app, you consent to this processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
